Festival Theme: Threads of Identity

CineFAM 2025 is a bold exploration of roots, identity, and the stories that tether us. This year, our films explore ancestral lineage, unearthing histories and allegories that fuel our search for redemption, cultural understanding, and a vision for a better future. Sometimes, looking back is the only way to imagine forward—and these stories do just that, bridging past and present with power and purpose.

At the same time, we confront the ever-shifting question of identity. Who are we if we don’t know who we are? Identity is not a destination; it’s a journey, discovered bit by bit over a lifetime. The films in this program follow that journey with courage, curiosity, and heart, exploring how heritage, experience, and imagination shape the people we are becoming.

CineFAM 2025 celebrates the fearless voices of Canadian women and non-binary filmmakers of colour, inviting audiences to witness stories that challenge, move, and ignite the imagination. These films are a call to connect, reflect, and embrace the transformative power of storytelling—because our past informs our present, and our present shapes the future we dare to create.
